Interesting Facts
Throughout her life, Janet Collins was so determined and busy working on her career that she never married and never had any kids. When she was growing up, her mother was a seamstress, and her father was a tailor. Both of them urged her to study painting instead of dance, because art seemed like it would offer more opportunities to her as an African American instead of classical dance. Even at a young age, Janet Collins chose to follow her heart. She changed the world of ballet forever, and inspired so many people through her legacy.
